Mp5 airsoft guns are by far the most highly soft after and purchased airsoft gun on the market today, but what makes them, just that, airsoft? This article will highlight the some of the different styles and makes of airsoft weaponry.

Although the airsoft industry is dominated by military style pistols and rifles, airsoft guns come in a variety of makes and models…most of which very closely mimic their “real,” counterpart. Within each category, you have 3 basic styles…spring loaded, electric, and Co2 gas.

Spring loaded models are generally single shot varieties and have a tendency to be more popular within the hand gun type models. Due to the spring mechanism needing to be pulled back and engaged before every shot, automatic firing is almost impossible (although some say it is possible to upgrade a single shot to automatic). The spring style is also generally less expensive, less powerful, and less accurate, due to the nature of the spring, recoil etc…they can however look somewhat more realistic when shot, again due to the recoil.

The second general type of airsoft gun type is electric. The electric models are much more prevalent in automatic style weapons and can be shot quickly and repeatedly. There basically is a rechargeable lithium battery (generally, although cheap models may use something like AAA batteries) in the gun that engages the chamber when the trigger is compressed. Much of the inner workings of an electric version are very similar to their spring loaded counterpart, however the battery engages the chamber for you. A cool subset within this market is what is called a hybrid AEG (automatic electric gun). What makes it a hybrid are the subtle nuances to make it more life like. You can actually get chambers with individual shells, each loaded with a single pellet and pop cap etc…With this type of weapon, you would get the ultimate in realism…Metal parts, single and automatic shots, and a clip full of cases that when shot, will make a realistic sound, eject a single pellet, and discharge and release a single casing like a true automatic weapon would…very cool…

The last basic style is the gas powered airsoft weapon. These are kind of the dinosaurs of the airsoft world. Although you can still buy them new today, they are much less popular due to their need for Co2 cartridges etc…They are the traditional pellet guns that many of us grew up with in the 70’s and 80’s…They can very realistic as well, and shoot slower or quicker, gauged and regulated by the quantity of gas released.
